Communicating through form has long been a integral part of Sebastian Bergne’s work. Using reference to the familiar, symbolism, careful choice of materials combined with essential functions and human qualities, he adds layers of interest and possible understanding to the objects he creates.
Drawing on this awareness, Bergne has set about creating a series of new objects within the context of his personal studio practice, some in editions and some unique pieces. They play with the meaning of the simplest of familiar forms, sometimes adding function sometimes only referencing obsolete use. These objects celebrate all aspects of life with a material or functional quality that he hopes will make them a valued part of our everyday lives.
This new work will be on show at his Open Studio event on 5th July. 10am – 5pm (and the following week by appointment) at 2 Ingate Place, London SW8 3NS. Map
