On Reflection

On Reflection is a mirror bowl for self-enjoyment and reflection created for the Cr exhibition at Gallery Surface. Visitor are invited to discover the reinterpretation of chromium plating by four designers, Sebastian Bergne, Atelier BL119, Maddalena Casadei and Normal Studio.

The history and highly reflective nature of chrome make it closely related to the idea of image and vanity. Used since the 50’s to add brightness, flash and resistance to otherwise basic metals. Today we have a chance to build on this, perhaps with new uses and understandings.

Looking down into a pool to admire oneself is an idea that can be traced from Narcissus in 8 AD to this day. Now, perhaps more than ever, it seems somehow perfect that an object that allows us to admire and reflect on one’s self should be entirely covered in a surface of chrome.

On Reflection is a unique object by Sebastian Bergne.
